Third-Wave Feminism

"I don't know why I didn't call myself a feminist until I was in college. I certainly was one way before then. I think we all are. I mean, really, what young girl hasn't thought at some point that some sexist bulls*** is completely unfair to women? The problem seems to be putting a name on that feeling. 'Feminism' is just too scary and loaded a word for some women. Which is really too bad. Because feminism is a pretty amazing thing."
-Jessica Valenti, author and founder of Feministing.com, from her book Full Frontal Feminism
I interned at Teen Voices Magazine—a feminist magazine written for and by teen girls based in Boston, MA—and have taken various classes about gender, equality, and the media. I believe that while women have made incredible progress toward equality, there is still a long way to go, and I am interested in documenting, exploring and analyzing that journey.
